It's Free Music Friday Night with live music opening the year at Centennial Park's 2019 Friday Night Concerts featuring License to Chill. The music takes place at the Gazebo in the park. Bring your folding chairs or blankets. Free.

Scrub Jay 5K & 10K Run

Saturday | 8:00 a.m.

In shape? Join hundreds of other runners for the Scrub Jay 5K & 10K run at Oscar Scherer State Park. The 5K run starts at 8:00 a.m. The 10K run starts at 8:15 a.m., the Park opens at 6:30 a.m. Over 600 runners participated last year! Oscar Scherer State Park is located in Osprey, south of Sarasota, north of Venice, at 1843 S. Tamiami Trail.

Sarasota Winter Fine Art Festival

Saturday & Sunday | 10:00 a.m.

The Sarasota Winter Fine Art Festival returns to downtown Sarasota on January 12-13, 2019 for its seventh year. The event is held downtown on Gulf Stream and hours are 10am - 5pm each day. The Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) graciously hosts this spectacular art event, one of the finest art events in Florida. Over 130 artisans from across America showcase their art, creating an outdoor gallery of spectacular painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, glass and ceramics, interwoven with fiber and wearable art, mixed-media, metalwork, graphics, woodworking and more. Find a diversity of styles, techniques and materials in each medium guided by the unique visions of each artisan. Consider commissioning a piece of art specifically for you. Cinematheque:  Classic and Fan Favorite Movie Screenings Saturday Nights

The Sarasota Film Festival presents classic and iconic film screenings every Saturday night. On Jan. 12, we present THE MALTESE FALCON (1941). In this noir classic, detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman (Mary Astor). As soon as Miss Wonderly shows up, trouble follows as Sam's partner is murdered and Sam is accosted by a man (Peter Lorre) demanding he locate a valuable statuette. Sam, entangled in a dangerous web of crime and intrigue, soon realizes he must find the one thing they all seem to want: the bejeweled Maltese falcon.

FSU/Asolo Conservatory Presents Ghosts

Unchained Melodies

Under the streetlamps of East Coast cities, doo-wop emerged, bringing tight harmony to the soundtrack of the 1950s. Beginning with doo-wop groups like The Drifters and The Platters, "Unchained Melodies" celebrates the swingin’ harmonies of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Featuring songs like “Blue Moon,” “16 Candles,” “Save The Last Dance,” and “Working My Way Back To You.”

Sunday Polo at Sarasota Polo Club

Sunday | 1:00 p.m.

The 28th season at the Sarasota Polo Club begins Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 1pm with polo matches every Sunday through April 28, 2019. Scheduled matches last approximately two hours. Located in Lakewood Ranch on 130 perfectly manicured acres, the Sarasota Polo Club welcomes thousands of polo spectators each Sunday for exciting polo action, tailgating, picnicking, half-time entertainment, Clydesdale wagon rides, and divot stomping. Food and drinks are available onsite or you are welcome to bring your own picnic basket. Sarasota Polo is the perfect Sunday outing. Adult ticket prices are $12 and children under 12 are free. Dogs are welcome on a leash.

Manatee Performing Arts Center – Pirates of Penzance

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

This rollicking, music-filled farce, which premiered in 1879, includes home-town references to our own Pittsburg Pirates. At eight years of age, Frederic was apprenticed to a group of fun-loving, soft-hearted pirates. Now 21, he decides to leave the pirates to lead “a blameless life.” He makes it his goal to eradicate these pirates. Fun and mayhem follow. Gilbert and Sullivan’s ditties are as clever today as they ever were. Presented in partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bradenton Farmers’ Market

Saturday | 9:00 a.m.

A place where the community meets each week to enjoy fresh produce, local art, upbeat music, demonstrations by local chefs, and family activities. Parking is free on weekends, and dogs on leashes are always welcome. The market sets up every Saturday on Old Main Street, just north of Manatee Avenue from the first weekend in October to the last week in May.

South Florida Museum – KidSpace

Saturday | 10:30 a.m.

KidSpace is a program for kids who want to explore everything there is to know about space and become Masters of the Universe. At 10:30 am on the second and fourth Saturday morning of each month, we’ll unleash the awesome power of the Bishop Planetarium, taking off from Earth’s surface and flying to places no human has gone before: the Sun, the planets, other moons of our solar system, newly discovered solar systems in our galaxy and beyond. KidSpace is designed for kids in elementary school (grades 1-5), and their grown-ups.

South Florida Museum – IQuest:  What on Earth?

Saturday | 4:00 p.m.

IQuest is a monthly program for middle school students in grades 6-8. While each IQuest is different, you can always expect challenging projects and games that inspire out-of-the-box solutions to real world problems.
