Unchained Melodies

Under the streetlamps of East Coast cities, doo-wop emerged, bringing tight harmony to the soundtrack of the 1950s. Beginning with doo-wop groups like The Drifters and The Platters, "Unchained Melodies" celebrates the swingin’ harmonies of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Featuring songs like “Blue Moon,” “16 Candles,” “Save The Last Dance,” and “Working My Way Back To You.”

Yoga at Ca’ d’Zan

Yoga season returns to The Ringling this December with a complimentary class on the Ca' d'Zan Terrace and north side of the mansion facing Sarasota Bay! Greet the morning with an hour-long class of all levels vinyasa flow yoga lead by lululemon Sarasota Ambassador Ashley Stewart Yoga, Mind and Body. The property will open at 8:00 a.m., class begins at 8:30 a.m. Although class is free, pre-registration is required.

2018 Annual Winter Fine Arts Festival

Saturday & Sunday

Original Arts – Fine Crafts – Food & Fun – Unique Shops – Great Restaurants. This annual event is attended by seasonal residents, permanent residents, and vacationers to the Englewood area. In addition, shoppers from the nearby communities of Venice, Sarasota, North Port, Boca Grande, Port Charlotte, and Punta Gorda enjoy the opportunity to spend a relaxing day exploring Olde Englewood Village when West Dearborn Street becomes a “pedestrian-only” exhibit area. Proceeds of the event benefit Englewood community charities.

Paper Jam! An Alternative Book Fair

Paper Jam is an alternative book fair featuring comics, zines, graphic novels, artists’ books, photobooks, creative writing, illustrated books, and experimental printed matter at the Ringling College of Art + Design.

Cinematheque – Casablanca

The Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) now offers a year-round Cinematheque program that brings classic American and foreign movies to local audiences. Each screening will be preceded by an introduction from a film personality to make the viewing experience even more enriching. The series will launch with one of the greatest and most romantic Hollywood movies ever made. Moody Bogie, stunning Ingrid Bergman, "we'll always have Paris!" – Casablanca has become part of the global culture, showing up regularly on the lists of the top ten best films ever made. The legendary 1942 motion picture tells the story a heroic nightclub owner who tries to save his old flame from Nazis in Morocco. A captivating wartime adventure, romance and intrigue.

The Nutcracker

SCBS open their season with a production of this timeless classic set to Tchaikovsky’s splendid score. Join Clara and her Nutcracker Prince as they journey, by way of a magical Christmas tree, from her home into the whimsical Kingdom of Sweets.

23rd Annual Sarasota Holiday Parade

Saturday | 7:00 p.m.

A HOLIDAY FOR ALL AGES! High school marching bands, area churches and nonprofits, local businesses...and of course the big finale - the arrival of Santa Claus - make this a beloved kick-off of the holiday season. Join thousands of spectators along Main Street in downtown Sarasota. Bring your own chairs and sit anywhere along the parade route, which is from 301/Washington Blvd to Gulfstream Ave. Arrive early and bring the whole family to this treasured community tradition!

Sunday Polo

Sunday | 1:00 p.m.

The 28th season at the Sarasota Polo Club begins Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 1pm with polo matches every Sunday through April 28, 2019. Scheduled matches last approximately two hours. Located in Lakewood Ranch on 130 perfectly manicured acres, the Sarasota Polo Club welcomes thousands of polo spectators each Sunday for exciting polo action, tailgating, picnicking, half-time entertainment, Clydesdale wagon rides, and divot stomping. Food and drinks are available onsite or you are welcome to bring your own picnic basket. Sarasota Polo is the perfect Sunday outing.

“Blues Appetizer Concert”

Friday | 6:00 p.m.

The “Blues Appetizer” Concert is a free event on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, from 6–9 p.m., at the Event Pavilion on the Bradenton Riverwalk. Bring your chairs or blanket and find a spot in the grassy lawn and enjoy music by the Memphis Rub Band and the Bridget Kelly Band. Even though it’s a free event, don’t forget to bring your wallet! Our specialty food vendors will have delicious dinners and tasty snacks available to purchase until the end of the show. Craft beer and wine will also be available. Specialty blues vendors will also be at the festival, so be sure to pick up a t-shirt or gift for a friend.

Manatee Performing Arts Center – Elf The Musical

Santa Clause narrates the story of Buddy, who was raised at the North Pole. Prior to Christmas, Buddy learns he’s human, not an elf. He convinces Santa to let him return to New York City to find his real father. He finds his father (who’s on the naughty list) and a step brother who doesn’t believe in Santa. Buddy decides it’s up to him to bring back the spirit of Christmas to his family and all of New York. Along the way, he discovers friendship, love and his true identity.

Manatee Performing Arts Center – A Christmas Carol

Dickens’ classic story of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge highlights Victorian England’s inequalities of wealth distribution. Visited by the Christmas ghosts of past, present and future, Scrooge sees how his miserly ways have affected his life and the people around him. He realizes there’s still time for him to transform into a generous, kind-hearted man.

Bradenton Farmers’ Market

Saturday | 9:00 a.m.

A place where the community meets each week to enjoy fresh produce, local art, upbeat music, demonstrations by local chefs, and family activities. Parking is free on weekends, and dogs on leashes are always welcome. The market sets up every Saturday on Old Main Street, just north of Manatee Avenue from the first weekend in October to the last week in May.

Bradenton Blues Festival

Saturday | 11:00 a.m.

The Bradenton Blues Festival, presented by BMO Harris Bank, brings musicians of national and regional acclaim to the big stage on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, from 11 a.m.–8p.m., representing a variety of blues styles. Buy your general admission ticket, and bring your favorite lawn chair or blanket and find yourself a set on the grassy lawn near the big stage, or reserve yourself a front-of-stage chair! Either way, you’re going to have an amazing view, and you’re going to hear the best sound coming from the big stage. Bring your appetite! Our specialty food and drink vendors will be have lunch, dinner, and tasty treats for you to purchase until the end of the show. Imports, domestics, and locally-brewed craft beer will be available, as well as red and white wine. Specialty blues vendors will also be at the festival.

This Broadway Style Musical Production is about when the caterer for an office Christmas party cancels at the last minute, a well-known celebrity chef steps in to do a favor for his old friend by providing the food!

The Venice Christmas Boat Parade

Saturday | 6:00 p.m.

Traditionally held on the first Saturday of December, The Venice Christmas Boat Parade starts at 6 p.m. (rain date is the next day) along the Intracoastal Waterway in Venice starting at the Albee Road Bridge in Nokomis and moving south along the waterway to the Circus Bridge in Venice. Spectators line the north (at South Nokomis Beach) and south (at North Venice Beach) jetties and throughout the downtown and Venice waterfront areas to the judging area near the south Circus Bridge for a view of the brightly lit and colorfully decorated “Christmas Boats.”

45th Annual Singing Christmas Tree


You're invited to the 45th Annual Singing Christmas Tree to enjoy the wonder of Christmas. Presented by the First Sarasota Downtown Baptist Church, The Singing Christmas Tree, some 25 feet tall, sporting over 10,000 lights with 12 levels that hold 115 choir members, is an annual music and drama production written & directed by church members and accompanied by an orchestra featuring songs of the Christmas Season and stunning pageantry.

Bowls of Hope

Sunday | 11:00 a.m.

All Faiths Food Bank’s popular Bowls of Hope benefit, which will be held at Ed Smith Stadium from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Each year more than 1,500 guests attend the family-friendly event where 40 of the community’s finest restaurants and caterers serve delicious soups, breads, desserts, and more. Guests select beautiful, handcrafted bowls to keep -- all donated by local potters, artists, and students -- while enjoying a modest meal as a reminder of the empty bowls they help to fill.
