The Players Costume Sale

Friday | 10:00 a.m.

The Players is cleaning out our costume stock just in time for Halloween! Costumes collected throughout the decades will be up for sale, so if you're looking for a unique costume for the holidays, performances or dress-up, this is the time to stock up! Costumes will be displayed in the backstage theatre.

10 x 10

Friday | 6:00 p.m.

The 10x10 events are intended to showcase and introduce a diverse group of leaders and creative minds from our community. Every few months, 10 speakers are asked to present 10 images of their work, interest, or inspiration. Architect Michael Halflants and painter Tim Jaeger invited 10 speakers to present 10 images of their work, interest, or inspiration. Slides will advance automatically every 30 seconds with brief introductions between speakers. Admission is $10 at the door to cover appetizers and room reservation. A cash bar will be hosted by Louie’s Modern. The presentations will start at 6:00pm.

Ghosts & Gruesomes Tour

Saturday 8:00 p.m.

"Ghosts & Gruesomes" Tour! 8:00 p.m.-9:15 p.m. Are there ghosts in Sarasota? Are there unsolved or intriguing murder cases? Absolutely! Join us on this dark and creepy 75 minute walk to hear what we found out when we went exploring the dark streets of Sarasota at night! RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. $18 per person - Parental discretion is advised – not recommended for small children!

Bradenton Farmers’ Market

Saturday | 9:00 a.m.

A place where the community meets each week to enjoy fresh produce, local art, upbeat music, demonstrations by local chefs, and family activities. Parking is free on weekends, and dogs on leashes are always welcome. The market sets up every Saturday on Old Main Street, just north of Manatee Avenue from the first weekend in October to the last week in May. Old Main Street is a tree-lined retail district of cafes and restaurants running three blocks north from Manatee Avenue to the Manatee River, where it meets the Bradenton Riverwalk.

South Florida Museum – Kid Space

Saturday | 10:00 a.m.

KidSpace is a program for kids who want to explore everything there is to know about space and become Masters of the Universe. From 10:15 – 11 am on the second and fourth Saturday morning of each month, we’ll unleash the awesome power of the Bishop Planetarium, taking off from Earth’s surface and flying to places no human has gone before: the Sun, the planets, other moons of our solar system, newly discovered solar systems in our galaxy and beyond. KidSpace is designed for kids in elementary school (grades 1-5), and their grown-ups.

Free community event to promote environmental awareness and bring people together.

South Florida Museum – Iquest: The Science of Scary

Saturday 4:00 p.m.

IQuest is a monthly program for middle school students in grades 6-8. While each IQuest is different, you can always expect challenging projects and games that inspire out-of-the-box solutions to real world problems. IQuest takes place on the second Saturday of most months from 4-8 pm.

Artwalk at Ringling College Galleries

Ringling College of Art and Design's Art Walks celebrate the work of exhibiting artists, College faculty, and students. Join us for an event-filled evening of art, food, and music from 4-7PM. FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC --- The Galleries program of Ringling College of Art and Design includes exhibitions and activities that celebrate the work and production of students, faculty and alumni.

Fridays @ 5:  Word and Image – The Many Worlds of Regina Scully and Roberto Bentivegna

Friday | 5:00 p.m.

New Orleans-based artist Regina Scully will discuss the micro-universes she creates in her paintings and showcase some of her works in an exhibit entitled “Small Paintings and Works on Paper.” (This exhibit runs through December in the Palm House at the Hermitage, 6630 Manasota Key Road; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.) Italian screenwriter Roberto Bentivegna will read from his witty, challenging screenplays. Stay and enjoy the beach afterwards.

Sarasota Honey Bee Tour

Garden Music Series

The Garden Music Series at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is proud to present an eclectic variety of local and international musical artists who perform music of nearly every style and musical genre, both vocal and instrumental. From classical pianists to folk, country, Latin and world music, jazz and standards to rock and roll, pop and soul, there is something for everyone. Artists often interpret covers of well know songs in addition to performing original material with repertoire that spans the styles and sounds of current hits to the early 20th century. Garden Music Series guests are offered a world-class outdoor concert experience along with beautiful views and relaxing walks through the Gardens.

Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay Music Festival

Friday & Saturday | All Day

Celebrating its 22nd Anniversary, the Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay Music Festival becomes 2 days of music and fun in 2018 and takes place again on the outdoor grounds of the Van Wezel Auditorium. With Sarasota Bay as a backdrop there will be live music with16 national musical, regional and local musical acts. Live music for 2 days! Oct. 12's line up includes: Hot Club SRQ, Synia Carrol with The Phil Magallanes Trio, Fred Johnson and more. Oct. 13's line up includes headliner, Sarasota's own, Lauren Mitchell, the Florida Blues Brothers, Brandi Adams, The Koko Ray 5 and more. A selection of the area’s most delicious restaurants and vendors add to the fun. Proceeds benefit the the Mayor's Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation to feed, protect and nurture children and families in our community.

Howl-O-Ween Movie Night Spooktacular

Saturday | 5:00 p.m.

It's the 4th annual Howl-O-Ween Movie night Spooktacular shown on the Ed Smith Stadium outfield video board. Children can come dressed in their favorite costume to enjoy free children's games, activities and photo opportunities with the Oriole Bird beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by a costume parade around the bases. The movie, Hocus Pocus, begins at approximately 7 p.m. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Parking and admission are free. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for All Faith's Food Bank. OneBlood will be conducting blood donations and donors will receive a free, Halloween-themed T-shirt.

Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon Festival

Saturday & Sunday | All Day

Take part in an exciting weekend of racing and watch top international triathletes compete at the 2nd annual Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon Festival. A two-day celebration of all things triathlon. With racing opportunities for, age-group, collegiate and elite athletes alike, registration is now open for the USAT Age Group Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon World Qualifier and Age Group Non Draft Legal Open Sprint Triathlon.

Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest

Saturday & Sunday | 10:00 a.m.

The 30th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual ride and game activity booth, including pony rides, rock wall, bounce house, and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $2 – $7. Food available for purchase.

12th Annual Hungarian Festival

Saturday & Sunday | All Day

The Global Friendship Foundation (GFF) invites you to the 12th Annual Hungarian Festival. Dancers, children's activities including pony rides, arts and crafts, games and fun for the whole family. Plus world famous Hungarian dishes and desserts. The festival features live concerts and entertainment all day. Goulash soup cooking competition. Enjoy authentic Hungarian cuisine, sample traditional dishes, pastries, cakes and wines.

Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Show

Sunday | 2:00 p.m.

Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium.

19th Annual Firehouse Chili Cook-Off

The 19th Annual Firehouse Chili Cook-Off features Sarasota firehouses competing for the best chili award. Celebrity judges, live entertainment and more.
